Wow! These last two years have been a whirlwind right? What a crazy, crazy world we live in. The world has completely changed, travel has completely changed and our opportunities might have seemed to have changed a little too. Every country has seen the effects of a global pandemic and, in the UK, Brexit (the UK’s exit from the European Union) has had some effects on our travelling lives too.

You’re probably thinking that travelling to London on an exciting adventure and finding fresh opportunities in the Big Smoke is going to be super difficult. However, I’m here to tell you that it’s not as hard as you might think – and those London opportunities you once dreamed of are not out of your grasp yet. In fact, with all these changes, some of those opportunities might be a little easier to come by than before. Here’s four reason why London still has all the opportunities that you need.

1. London is still London

The most common misconception is that London has completely changed since the Covid-19 pandemic – and this is completely not true. Yes, some things are a little different, for example, some bars and attractions require precautions so that COVID-19 isn’t spread around, but at the time of writing this blog, everything is open as usual – you can go to concerts, night clubs, café’s, museums, tourist attractions, ride the tube and of course have a pint in a pub. You might just need to wear a mask and sanitise your hands from time to time.

Also, on the other hand, lots of businesses and attractions are offering discounted deals on their experiences to get the tourist industry back up and running. So, in fact, the main changes you might find are that there are less queues and some things are a little cheaper. There’s never been a better time to visit one of Europe’s major cities!

2. There’s plenty of jobs and opportunities, just less competition.

One of the main reasons you might move to London is to learn English and get some work in the city. In no time you’ll become a Londoner, riding the tube to school or work, flicking a pound coin into a street performer’s hat.

Since Brexit and the pandemic, quite a few international Londoners decided to move away from London to be closer to their family. This hasn’t made London any less busy or exciting (London still has population of over 9 million!) but it has made it a little easier to find work or opportunities. Although people are slowly moving back to the UK capital, there are currently plenty of vacancies in areas such as hospitality and retail. So, if you’re a barista or a shop assistant looking for some part time work to fund your English classes in London, the time has never been better!

3. Meet people, experience culture!

With such a huge population, London has people from all walks of life and every corner of the world.

This means you’re going to meet a lot of people and experience a lot of culture – because London culture is truly international. So not only will you experience parts of British culture, you’ll be having your roast dinner alongside a caipirinha and cannoli for desert.

London also has a big house-sharing culture and it’s completely normal to have a room in house with new people, which means you’ll be hanging out with new people all the time!

On top of this, you’ll want to dive into London’s music and theatre culture – imagine your Friday night watching a play at a West End theatre followed by cocktails in a jazz bar in Soho.

In London, you’ll experience the rich tapestry of international city-life.

4. Stay for up to 11 months with a student visa!

With most countries now requiring a visa to enter the UK, the quickest and easiest way to stay for an extended period of time is with a student visa. With a course at Escape Campus, we can help you get a visa to stay in London for a period of up to 11 months. You’ll also be able to improve your English to an almost native level and experience London like you never have before – as a true Londoner.
